It was the time to celebrate the most awaited day of my life ….that was my first anniversary. I am pretty sure everyone must be excited for this special day and would plan something beautiful & memorable. We planned to celebrate in one of the most beautiful places i.e in SANTORINI in GREECE.
Santorini is the largest island amongst the small islands in the southeast of mainland Greece. It is officially called THIRA, the top destination and amongst the most romantic destination in the Greek island and also in the world. Located in the Aegean Sea, in the Cyclades islands. Amazing villages have been constructed on the edge of this Caldera, with the Cycladic architecture and breathtaking view of the sea. Apart from this, the place is famous for the romantic sunset, volcanos and the luxurious resorts.
The villages of Santorini Greece are considered among the most beautiful villages in the Greek islands. Fira and Oia are the most famous villages, perched on the edge of the caldera and giving amazing view to the Aegean Sea and the volcano. We stayed in Oia village. OIA is known throughout the world for its quiet life and fantastic sunset and is certainly the most beautiful and picturesque village of Santorini. OIA is situated on top of an impressive cliff and offers a spectacular view over the volcano of Palia and Nea Kameni and the island of Thirassi. It is a traditional village with charming houses in narrow streets, blue domed churches, and sun-bathed verandas. Its streets have plenty of tourist shops, taverns, cafes, and other shops. It is much quieter than Fira and the busiest area is the main pedestrian that runs along its length. At the entrance of the village is a car park where visitors can leave their vehicle and enjoy long walks in the picturesque paths. It has several cultural attractions like the Maritime Museum which houses a small library, items from the maritime life of the area, and the vestiges of a Venetian fortress. Many artists fell in love with the area and settled there. For that reason, the village of Oia has many art galleries. It also has a small port, Ammoudi, which can be reached by a set of 300 steps leading down. There, small boats can take you opposite, to the island of Thirassia. The beach of Armenia is also located there. Taverns in Oia offer visitors tasty meals of fresh fish. IT IS MOST ROMANTIC PLACES FOR COUPLES…Must Visit!!
We had a two days stay in OIA village of Santorini, where we had our accommodation in Villa Katikies. Situated on the most westerly point of the island in Oia Santorini, Villa Katikies springs like a genuine jewel, strategically located in a unique natural environment with an unforgettable view next to its luxurious sister property, the Katikies hotel, one of the Leading Hotels of The World hotels in Greece. Emanating luxurious privacy and elegance, Villa Katikies is unique, uncluttered and discretely grand. Combining the warm atmosphere and feelings of private residences is the perfect environs from which to take in the uninterrupted views of endless azure waters, blue skies and blindingly whitewashed houses against the mesmerizing backdrop of the Caldera.
Accommodation of rooms and suites is DREAM AWAY…providing an effortlessly stylish setting where you can explore the most romantic side of the island and it represents the privileged location of the villa which is picture perfect. Entering into the small property which is exclusive and very private world of villa katikies is the aesthetic epitome of romance and luxury. The lavishing swimming pool under the breezy flowy white awnings and sunbathing decks provide heart-stopping view of the island. The clear blues and whites of the villas, harp back to its pure Greek island heritage, alongside rustic touches such as olive urns and trees.
The Food & Wine in the resort is Marveling at the lure of the perfect picture setting and which invites you again & again to explore the cuisine and pleasure of embracing dining and wine tasting which regards all your senses. Believe me, you can truly get an amazing experience by the pool with an exceptional service.
The villa is tucked near the edge of the infinity pool accompanied by a panoramic view. The Lounge Bar offers a wide range of refreshing beverages, fine wines and classic cocktails along with an all-day menu of light fare for Villa residents to experience the indulgent lifestyle.
Apart from this, you can experience various things there, which might make your vacation more memorable and fantastic!!
Walks: The obvious activity is to walk the caldera edge and admire the views. It’s about 9km in all, and a good three- to four-hours’ walk in one direction.
Wine-tasting: Santorini’s lauded wines are its crisp dry whites and the amber-coloured, unfortified dessert wine known as Vinsanto. Both are made from the indigenous grape variety. About a dozen local vineyards host tastings (usually with a small charge) and some offer food, with scenery and local produce combining to great effect.
Sunsets: Nature’s handiwork is on display from any waterfront seat come sundown, but prime sunset-viewing is in Oia, where thousands of tourists flock to admire (and applaud) nightfall.
Swimming: Take the plunge: at your hotel’s infinity pool or your suite’s private plunge pool, from the edge of a boat on a caldera cruise or on a black-sand beach on the east coast.
Tours: Any tour your heart desires can be organised – there are dozens of agencies ready to help with winery visits, archaeology tours, sunset-watching and more. The most popular option is a cruise, and the classic itinerary takes in the caldera’s volcanic islands of Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni, including a stop at the former’s crater and the latter’s hot springs.
Surprises: Sure, there are views that stop you in your tracks and great glimpses into how A-listers travel. There’s plenty to explore, from a gorgeous open-air cinema to a cool microbrewery, wine caverns adorned with artworks, and cooking demonstrations and classes which celebrate Santorini’s growing foodie culture.
